This is a tasoly decorated with a copy of the brass cast set found near the town of Chernigov, Ukraine. In the gallery above you may see what the original set looked like. Tarsoly (pronounced "tArshoy") is a type of belt pouch (10-11 century) of hungarian origin with long tradition. It was a kind of fashion of the time throughout Hungary and the lands to the East and North. It was usually decorated with brass mounts or with a single decorated metal plate. The richness of decoration of the tarsoly and of the belt on which it was worn demonstrated high rank, bravery and wealth of the owner. Hand sewing, brass castings, leather edging, underside is covered by thin leather. Size 15 x 15 cm
