Sallet was type of helmet with an extending back part to protect the neck. It came to replace the bascinet in 15c. Sallet existed in a lot of variations the two main being italian and german. Germa sallets had usually longer "tails" - protruding neckguards. This is a version of the sallet from Italy stored in the London Tower.
