Engolpion-cross is quite a big cross to wear on the neck. It has a hinge and may open to put saint relics or a bit of native soil inside while travelling faraway. Such crosses were widespread over the Orthodox world and beyond since 10c. A big cross of this type was the sign of wealth and rank. This model comes from 12c Rus and has a relief of Christ on the front and Cross with letters on the back. Black enamelled. Size 70 x 45 x 7 mm
