Sallet was type of helmet with an extending back part to protect the neck. It came to replace the bascinet in 15c. Sallet existed in a lot of variations the two main being italian and german. Germa sallets had usually longer "tails" - protruding neckguards.
This is a version of the sallet from Italy stored in the London Tower. It resembles much the german sallet s1450 with additional jointed neckpieces but has visor of different shape and no additional neckguard.
