Barbute is a visorless war helmet of fifteenth century Italian design, often with distinctive "T" shaped or "Y" shaped opening for the eyes and mouth. The barbute resembles classical Greek helmets and may have been influenced by a renewed interest in ancient artifacts.
This is an Italian barbute from the Musee de l'Armee, Paris, France. 15 c. Being a typical 15c. barbute it unusually features visor which is generally met on earlier time bascinets. The origin of the visor is yet to be researched. The visor may be made detachable, if needed. Matt polishing.
